Joseph’s story begins with a coat and ends with a coffin. In between are jealousy, betrayal, slavery, temptation, injustice, waiting, unexpected responsibility, guilt, repentance, forgiveness, and reunion. Through it all, one question keeps returning: What do you do when you can’t see what God is doing?
But Joseph’s story ultimately points beyond Joseph. It leads us to Jesus—the true Beloved Son, rejected by His own, who gives Himself in the place of sinners and rises from the dead. At the end of his life, Joseph can finally look back and say, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20). At the cross, we see that truth most clearly: human sin and evil do not get the final word. God’s saving purpose does.
